Saturday December 14 - Book Launch for Who's Afraid of the Black Blocs? @ Another Story Bookshop (Parkdale) Faces masked, dressed in black, and forcefully attacking the symbols of capitalism, Black Blocs have been transformed into an anti-globalization media spectacle. (One night only). An evening with stand up trans-comedian Ian Harvie @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Dec 14, 2013

(Video courtesy of Xtra Daily - Xtraonline.ca)

Harvie a transgender male, will make you laugh like no other. You don't want to miss him! No matter who you are, who you love or where you come from, Ian Harvie will make you feel as though you are family. Everyone will be able to relate to his observations about life, relationships, and the routine challenges we all face from day-to-day. His wickedly funny stories are couched in an amiable personality that could put any audience at ease, while his folksy, ingenuous delivery almost – but not quite – tempers his zinger punch lines, making them not just hilarious but seriously twisted. Even if he wasn’t so witty, without even trying, Ian could set an audience on it’s ear, opening up new realms of irony. He could be your brother, your best friend’s boyfriend or a merely a clean-cut preppie trying his hand at stand-up, but he’s not. In fact, there’s a good reason Frontiers Magazine referred to Ian as “Quite possibly the most unique stand up comic in the country”…Ian’s not “just” a gay comedian – he’s the world’s first FTM transgender comic… which, when put into context, will make his anecdotes about his own phobia of public restrooms all the more side-splitting! http://ianharvie.com/

Sunday December 15 - Global Day of Rage-Toronto: Against the Re-criminalization of Homosexuality in India @ Church & Wellesley. We cannot let this atrocity go unnoticed in this day and age. The right to be free irrespective of who we are, what we chose to do as consenting adults, is a basic human right.

This recent judgement regarding Indian Penal Code 377, criminalizes any sexual act gay in nature to be against the law in India - a law formulated by the British in the1860s. Even after 153 years, this draconian law continues to persist and denies basic human rights for LGBT folks to be free and live a life without judgement or persecution.

The Details: A protest of this kind finds strength in numbers. So we urge everyone from all backgrounds to come and support our international queer communities. Please bring banners, placards, and spread the word around. The gathering will be at 2pm at Church and Wellesley, in front of the mural that celebrates the history of the queer South Asian community.
