Tuesday October 20 - Trans Film Event: "The Aggressives" @ The Centre for Women and Trans People at U of T. The Aggressives is a dynamic documentary shot in vibrant NYC, featuring intimate interviews with six [lesbians] of colour who define themselves as "Aggressives". The Aggressives range in/through masculinities – from pretty tomboys to blatantly butch – to explore the unexplored gaps in society’s gender labels; boldly creating their own identities. Stripped of pretence they lead us to fashion shoots and prison cells to reveal their work lives, love lives, and social lives including the underground "ball" scene. The film presents one entry point to the AG community and AG movement in all its unabashed rough-edged glory and explores its impact on gender identity in the modern world. Labels get loudly rejected while dealing with race and image in trans contexts.

Monday Ocober 26 - Foundry Theatre Company presents the First Draft Reading of The Banana Club @ Rear View Mirror.

The Banana Club ( By Adam Adam Bradley and directed by Kurt Spenrath) is a two-handed heist narrative, which pits its protagonists against each other in a struggle for both past and present, much in the tradition of Pinter’s Sleuth, and Daniel MacIvor’s Never Swim Alone. The complex shared history of the two narrators is revealed as their crime leads them back through memories of childhood exclusion, adult estrangement and lapsed potential. On a deeper level, the play is about the way in which the stories that we tell ourselves about our past calcify into a truth that we accept blindly, and which limit our potential for change. October 26th, 7pm, The Rearview Mirror,193 ½ Baldwin Street Tickets: PWYC First Draft Theatre Company www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6408368316 Queer West, Toronto Ontario.

Tuesday October 27 - Are you a Condo Owner? Town Hall Meeting (Harmonized Sales Tax and condos owners) with MPP Cheri DiNovo

Cheri would like to invite you to a Town Hall meeting regarding the new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and how it will affect condo fees and other expenses.

On July 1st, 2010, the Liberal McGuinty government will introduce a new tax called the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) .

This means that many goods and services will be taxed an additional 8%. Things such as gasoline, utilities, internet connections, veterinarian bills, vitamins, muffins, Christmas trees and funerals will cost you 8% more.

Condo owners will get a double-whammy because services that your board uses on a regular basis will also be hit with an 8% tax hike (i.e., hydro, plumbing, property management, landscaping, legal fees, contract services, security services and home inspections). Many boards estimate that this new liberal tax will add 7% to condo fees. ART EXHIBITIONS

FIONA SMYTH art show @ The Parkdale Gyre. Smyth's new show “The Parkdale Gyre” reveals a supernatural horror whirling its' way into existence in this Toronto neighbourhood. Opposing forces of undetermined moral stance duke it out in the “Milky Way”. An abyss is threatening to swallow the district whole. Is it a construction site or a portal to another dimension?

“The Parkdale Gyre” continues catastrophic themes found in Smyth's recent solo shows but with a decidedly metaphysical bent. These new drawings and paintings on black grounds exemplify the sea of troubles that inspired this work. Gyres are circular flowing oceanic systems found in the great oceans. Recent news reports about The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an island of plastic refuse caught in a North Pacific gyre, informed this work. This unintentional floating garbage dump is a manifestation of our collective greed. More inspiration came from the Irish poet William Butler Yeats' ideas about the dual nature of humanity.
