Izad Etemadi’s one-man show Borderland is a play about an Iranian gay man on the run, trying to escape from his own country. (Etemadi is, indeed, Iranian and gay), Borderland isn’t a relentlessly heavy drama. “There are light moments, and there are happy moments,” he explained. “There’s got to be contrast in any drama.” A graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, where he studied musical theatre, Etemadi also completed the musical theatre program at the Banff Arts Centre, and has studied voice for most of his life. Simply put, he can sing. Etemadi’s family left Iran and moved to Germany in 1988. Allen Shugar, a proud Torontonian and an established gay painter, . He has been drawing and painting since childhood and, as a teenager, began painting in oils. Radical and unrelenting, Kantor continues to be front and centre as the international captain and chief leader of neo-art expressionism. He is also the first to name Electro Crap as a genre. Known for his Blood Campaign, Neoism, and winning the 2004 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts the international art-criminal, Istvan Kantor works with a variety of artists worldwide, most recently including Toronto based artist Nina Arsenault and Estonian performance art group Non Grata. Kantor will be returning to Toronto for the June 28 event, from Barcelona, Spain where he is currently performing.
