“I set out with the desire to create something new and different, something that was visually unique in a crowded landscape. I originally started with a bunch of awesome bald men and hurled water balloons at their heads, to capture the explosion of water at various intervals. The series has since evolved and has been explored in fashion, advertising and television. I chose to work with triads of colors to create images that are arresting and amusing at the same time. This collection is a testament to my core principle that if my images are my voice, I never want to be an echo.” Tim Tadder said.

In REVENGE OF THE POPINJAY, someone is killing the heterosexuals! As dozens of slayings engulf the city in panic, a young man rises to fame in underground rap clubs. WARNING: Adult content, extreme violence, and graphic heterophobia. Inspired by real events from Johnston’s life – his upbringing in rural Canada, his obsession with videogames, his immigration to NYC, the deaths of his sister and grandmother – the shows combine traditional storytelling, physical theatre, performance art, multi-media and stand-up comedy to create a unique genre-bending interactive experience. Ian Phillips unearths a vibrant queer history by painting his hometown pink, the colour of the icing on the city’s iconic pastry, the persian. His lighthearted postcard-like images respond to letters collected from Thunder Bay media. He presents this work as a celebration of Thunder Bay and the struggle its LGBTQ communities face.
Jamie Q http://jamieq.net/ and Ian Phillips http://ianphillipsillustration.wordpress.com/category/exhibits/ are queer visual artists and small press enthusiasts. In a chance pairing, their unique bodies of work come together not only through a common interest in illustration and self-publishing, but also through the transformative—and queer—potential of colour, shape, and form. 7:30pm – 10pm Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives (CLGA) 34 Isabella Street, Toronto Ontario. Wednesday September 25, 2013 – Toronto Author Ken Setterington reads his book Branded by the Pink Triangle @ Lillian H. Smith Library In the concentration camps of Nazi Germany, gay men were forced to wear the pink triangle. After the war, this bitter history was for decades ignored. The pink triangle, sewn onto prison uniforms, became the symbol of the persecution of homosexuals, a persecution that would continue for many years after the war. A mix of historical research, first person accounts, and individual stories bring this time to life for readers. Stories of bravery in the face of inhuman cruelty, friendship found in the depths of despair in the camps, and the perseverance of the human spirit will both educate and inspire.
Ken Setterington is a storyteller, author, children’s book reviewer, and a librarian. He was named the first Children and Youth Advocate for Library Services for the Toronto Public Library. He has been on the award committees for the Newbery, Caldecott and Sibert awards. Ken received the title Librarian of the Year in 2000 from the Ontario Library Association and won the prestigious Toronto Arts Award for Writing and Publishing in 2001.
