Wednesday September 2, 2015 - Book Launch Party with NDP MP Charlie Angus @ Tranzac. Club. Children of the Broken Treaty exposes a system of apartheid in Canada that led to the largest youth-driven human rights movement in the country’s history. The movement was inspired by Shannen Koostachin, a young Cree woman whom George Stroumboulopoulos named as one of “five teenage girls who kicked ass in history.” Based on extensive documentation Angus establishes a dark, unbroken line that extends from the policies of John A. Macdonald to the government of today. He provides chilling insight into how Canada--through breaches of treaties, broken promises, and callous neglect--deliberately denied First Nations children their basic human rights.

The Details; Children of the Broken Treaty by Charlie Angus, Book Launch Wednesday, September 2nd, 7:00pm - 9:00pm @ Tranzac Club, 292 Brunswick Ave, Free, Wheelchair Accessible. https://www.facebook.com/events/1007293349294672/ Queer West Toronto Ontario

Wednesday September 2 to Sunday Sept 6, 2016 - Cirque du Soleil Varekai @ The Air Canada Centre. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world imbued with fantastical creatures, a young man takes flight in an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. The word Varekai (pronounced ver·ay·’kie) means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers. Directed by Dominic Champagne, this production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to those who quest with infinite passion along the path that leads to Varekai. 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM and some afternoon weekend shows. Tickets prices range from $50 - $120. To purchase tickets, please visit http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/varekai or call 1-855-985-5000. Air Canada Centre, 40 Bay Street Toronto ON

Quebec-based Vague de Cirque is the creation of Alain Boudreaux and Noemie Gervais, two accomplished alums of Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize with their own vision for the popular art form. While major circus spectacles thrive on glamor and polish, Vague de Cirque adopts a simpler aesthetic, recalling the era when nomadic troupes traveled from town to town and performed in intimate spaces. Vague de Cirque brings a different and more human approach to circus, combining comedy with high-level acrobatics. Their latest creation ‘’Barbecue’’ shines with panache and verve, leaving the audience full of wonder and emotion. With the intimates feel of classy cabaret, the company draws inspiration from the very roots of circus. See Tickets for start times sliding scale $16 to $33. Or at the door 1h before the show.
