CallOut for Toronto Queer Spoken Word and Poetry Artists for Bent Expressions this Fall

Queer West is planning the first annual Bent Expressions. An evening of poetry and spoken word this Fall. If you would like to get on the ticket write, us with your biography, where else you have performed and head shot and web site, facebook or Myspace link, if you have one. The evening will consist of several DJs for interlude music. Forest Lighbody (DJ and event promoter) and Philip Cairns (artist/poet) are still in the planning stage this summer. Deadline: Wednesday October 14, 2009 (subject to change) Location TBA Also please keep in mind, that all material performed at the Bent Expressions, must go along with Queer West mission statement. Kirk DeMatas, a Toronto-based poet launched his writing career as the editor of a national newsletter for the health charity Osteoporosis Canada. He quickly followed up with the publication of his first book of poetry entitled "Wordspeak". The seventy-three-poem collection delivers candid and subtle commentaries on both the emotional and mental mechanics through which we grind, as well as our interactions with society. A regular staple at Toronto's Trane Studio Jazz Lounge, Kirk has been reciting poetry and performing with renowned Toronto musical acts since 2007.
