FRUITS - Japanese street fashion @ The Lakeview Restaurant.Shoichi Aoki (JP) Photographer, Author of FRUITS, Publisher of Fruits, Tune and Street magazines

Curated by Rafi Ghanaghounian Contact for further details: rafi.projects@gmail.com

Exhibition dates: November 25, 2009- February 9, 2010 Opening reception: November 25, 2009, 7-12pm

Over the last fifteen years, Shoichi Aoki has captured the many styles that pass on the streets of Tokyo. His photographs document the evolution of Tokyo street fashion, and his images have been published in the book FRUITS, as well as in other magazines throughout the world.

Aoki gives the kids on the streets the same attention as famous models and designers. The street fashion he highlights the creative expression of disenfranchised, rebellious youths that display their ideologies, affiliations and identities through their clothes.

As Aoki says, “My interest in fashion stems from the way people express themselves through the clothes they wear. It doesn’t matter what kind of clothes individual designers make. What is important are one’s thoughts and abilities to express them, one’s life and its relationship to the environment. When such elements are combined, they create a sculpture. This sculpture I call street fashion.” Today, Aoki publishes his photographs in his monthly Japanese fashion magazines: Fruits, Street and Tune

The Details: Art Exhibition runs Wednesday, 25 November 09 February 2010 atThe Lakeview Restaurant Street: 1132 Dundas St W Queer West Village Toronto Ontario.
