TRIGGER FESTIVAL CALL OUT for June 11& 12

Trigger is a 2 day survivor-centric, DIY, queer arts & performance festival building capacity, developing community and initiating action. Runng June 11 and 12, 2010 in the Kensignton Market neighbourhood.

TRIGGER identifies the queer survivor in relation to the individual experiences of: refugee queers, raped queers, disordered queers, diagnosed queers, queers of colour, poor queers, fat queers, struggling queers, differently abled queers, abused queers, transitioning queers, working queers, anti-capitalist queers, homeless queers, trans identified queers, gender non-conforming queers, questioning queers, unstable queers, punk queers and addicted queers. TRIGGER celebrates the strength of each queer within our community and their ability to not only survive but thrive!

CALL OUT for ALL PERFORMERS

* All performers will receive an equal honorarium for their involvement*

Thursday April 8 - The Mark S. Bonham, Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies, University of Toronto Presents 'Beyond It’s Elementary: Talking About Gender and Sexual Orientation in Elementary Schools'. A panel of experienced teachers, concerned parents and researchers will discuss what has changed and what has remained the same in Toronto schools over the last 15 years. Internationally recognized for their excellence in fusing Jewish music with elements of "world", classical and jazz, celebrated Canadian artists Lenka Lichtenberg (voice, piano, guitar) and Brian Katz ( classical guitar, piano, voice) have worked together since 2001. They have performed festivals and concert series around the globe including Ashkenaz (Toronto), Klezmore (Vienna), the Leeds International Festival of Performing Arts (UK), various concerts in the Czech Republic, and La Fete de la musique in Geneva. Their critically acclaimed CD "Pashtes [simplicity]" received airplay in 23 countries. After 3 years of individual projects, Brian and Lenka come back together for a special concert, joined by Kinneret Sagee on clarinet and Alan Hetherington on percussion. The concert will premiere several new songs of Lenka's upcoming fourth solo Yiddish/English CD "free" (fray), as well as revisit older programme favourites.

The Details: Parking guides will help you find a spot for the day. Buses go west on William St. For 10 months we have been preparing for you. Now as the Big Day approaches the activity around town has shifted into high gear. The Pancake House cooks are flexing their pancake flippers and firing up the griddles; the sugarshacks are bubbling and boiling with sweet,sweet syrup; the midway owner is greasing up the rides; the crafters are putting on the finishing touches and quilters are applying the last few stitches.
