Saturday October 16 - Dance Matters - 'A Woman's Work' @ Scotiabank Studio Theatre (Parkdale). DANCE MATTERS is a curated dance series which features finished works in a casual theatre environment; a platform for the exchange of thoughts, ideas, and feedback between audience and artists. A post-show discussion will delve into each artist’s creative mind, ingenuity, and the art of performance.
SERIES 1 – 'A WOMAN'S WORK' The works featured in this series address how women are defined in various cultures in our current society, how woman have been defined historically, how women come to define themselves, as well as looking at turning the gender roles upside down. Each choreographer investigates one or several of these themes in their own way, from a personal or global perspective.

Featuring (among other artists): ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company - is a queer positive multiracial dance company that embraces difference as strength, combats oppressive power structures by expressing their voices through dance, and operates from the grassroots as a collective through consensus. Utilizing both classical dance techniques and urban dance forms of hip hop, ballet, jazz, house, vogue, step, latin, modern, and wushu kung fu, ILL NANA creates dance works with a style all their own. These performers are fearlessly out and proud, sexy, masculine, feminine, and all that is in between, representing the super queeroe’s and real humans in all of us. ILL NANA will present a new work: Ain’t I a man? Ain’t I a woman? In society what makes a man a man? What makes a woman a woman? What happens when you cross those lines?

Shit we're diggin'
Duck Sauce – “Barbara Streisand”

Duck Sauce’s incredible dance floor track named after Barbra Streisand is infectiously brilliant. It’s catchy, and simple, and yet a hint of complexity, with a touch of humor. You’ll be humming along to the tune of this track in no time, and you’ll be finding yourself shouting out Barbra Streisand in the middle of a conversation. We're so excited to hear other future tracks from them. “Barbra Streisand” comes out on October 10th, 2010 (New videos posted randomly by Michel)
